Silica Webinar on Demand

We had the pleasure of collaborating with Sensidyne on our highly successful Silica Webinar. Established in 1983, Sensidyne has been a pioneer in manufacturing and distributing gas detection and air sampling instrumentation, as well as a key supplier of gas detection tubes. Their vision is to become the leading provider of reliable air monitoring solutions for worker safety, loss prevention, and air quality.

Silica exposure is a significant concern for millions of workers, particularly those in industries like construction, heavy equipment operation, and plastering. In the UK alone, an estimated 600,000 workers encounter silica. A 2019 study in occupational and environmental medicine, co-authored by researchers from HSE’s Centre for Workplace Health, emphasised the ongoing prevalence of silicosis across various industries associated with silica exposure. It highlighted that silicosis affects workers of all ages, with a substantial number being of working age. The study also revealed that silicosis cases were observed even among young workers across different industry sectors, indicating a concerning trend.

Aaron Apostolico, a Certified Industrial Hygienist and the Product Applications and Research Manager at Sensidyne, served as the guest speaker, covering a range of topics including the nature of silica, its implications, regulatory frameworks, global health statistics, affected industries, case studies, sampling techniques, equipment, and methodologies.

What you can expect from the webinar:

  • What is silica
  • Why is silica a problem
  • Crystalline silica rules
